offer which are listed by species. If you have questions
about a specific service or one you do not see below,
please contact us via
e-mail
or phone.
Black Pond Veterinary Service offers
24 hour emergency coverage to all our clientele.
Because of the new clinic
location, you now have the choice of a farm call
appointment or a clinic appointment for your routine
work. We charge a $15 Haul - In Appointment fee
to those who choose to drive to us as compared to a
regular farm call.
Specialized Procedures:
***Digital Radiography
uses x-rays to visualize bone for abnormalities
including arthritic changes and fractures. Black Pond
has three portable x-ray machines capable of imaging
heads, stifles, limbs and necks.
We offer
Digital Radiography
both at the clinic and in the field. We will be
discontinuing the use of standard radiographic film and are going
all digital. The benefits to you include viewing radiographs on
site (needs to be pre-arranged) and the ability for us to easily
email copies or burn them to a disk. The digital radiography
offers several enhancements including high resolution and zoom
enabling better interpretation of radiographic studies.
***Shockwave -
extracorporeal shockwave therapy uses sound waves
stronger than diagnostic ultrasound machines but weaker
than lithotripsy machines to aid in the healing and
rehabilitation of tendon, ligament and boney injuries.
Additionally, it offers pain relief and may be used as
an adjunct to other therapies. Shockwave therapy has
been used successfully to treat bowed tendons,
suspensory desmitis, sesmoiditis, navicular disease,
distal tarsitis, back pain. It is a non-invasive
alternative.
***Ultrasonography
uses sound waves to evaluate soft tissues like tendons
and ligaments, reproductive organs, lumps, tumors. It is
painless and non-invasive.
***Thermography
infrared camera that visualizes heat patterns. Increased
heat in an area indicates increased circulation. The
body often increases circulation in order to heal an
injury. Thermography is useful to highlight those areas
in a non-invasive way, evaluate sore backs, saddle fit,
hoof balance, and aides in abscess detection.
***Endoscopy a fiber optic device for
evaluating the airway of the horse, including the
larynx, sinus passages, guttural pouches and upper
esophagus. Useful in pre-purchase exams, pneumonias or
reactive airway diseases.
***Cryosurgery device used to freeze
tissues using liquid Nitrogen. Offers a way to remove
tumors that would be otherwise difficult to excise or
where it is contraindicated to excise them like sarcoids
***Equine Gastroscope
( 9ft ) - Allows the doctor to see into the horses
stomach and accurately diagnose gastric ulcers. Signs
of ulcers include frequent colic, poor weight gain,
variable appetite, diarrhea. Our gastroscope travels!
We can perform gastric ulcer diagnosis at your barn or
at our clinic.
***EKG/ECG -
Echocardiography is used to evaluate the heart's rhythm
and electrical output. It is a useful way of looking at
cardiac disease and arrhythmias like atrial
fibrillation.
***Full Service Laboratory
Testing - most results within 24 hours
***Partnership with SmartPak -
please use our code (VETcode NEZS39)
when ordering your supplements as it enables us to keep
track of what your horse is receiving. You can now order
your Preventicare Strongid C/ C2X products
through Smartpak and qualify with us on the Preventicare
Program as long as you use this code. There is no
additional cost to you and your Strongid can come
